Contact: Logan McSwain For Immediate Release News Release Leslie Kesler joins The Charlotte Museum of History as Historian and Curator
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Museum of History is proud to announce that Leslie Kesler has joined the staff as Historian and Curator. The new Historian and Curator position was made possible by a special Challenge Grant awarded by the Arts & Science Council. Kesler comes to the Museum from the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh where she has been the Curator of Political and Socioeconomic History since 1999. Previously she was a museum educator at the North Carolina Museum of History, and she also worked at Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site and at Colonial Williamsburg. She holds a B.A. with honors in history from Haverford College and an M.A. in American history from the College of William and Mary, with extensive post graduate work in historical administration. Returning to the Charlotte region where she grew up and graduated from Independence High School, Kesler will lead interpretive planning for Museum programs and exhibits and work with the Collections Manager to aid in researching, cataloguing artifacts and archival materials, and making recommendations regarding additions to the collection. “We are delighted to have Leslie on staff to enhance the scholarly content of our programs and exhibits and to lead our collections department,” said Kris Carmichael, Chief Operating Officer. The Charlotte Museum of History is Where History Has A Home. The Museum, with its core and visiting exhibitions, explores Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s rich history during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The Museum is home to the oldest surviving structure in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, the Hezekiah Alexander House (circa 1774). Set on eight acres of park like grounds, the Museum is also home to the American Freedom Bell, the Backcountry Patriot Statue and historic gardens. In addition, the Museum offers: rental space for events and weddings, education programs for adults, schools and families, and membership benefits and opportunities. The Charlotte Museum of History is supported, in part, with a Basic Operating Grant form the Arts & Science Council. The Charlotte Museum of History is located at 3500 Shamrock Drive (between Eastway and Sharon Amity). Open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Free every Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Open Mondays from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
