house, the oldest home in Mecklenburg County; the detached kitchen; and springhouse.

The focus of the tour is the daily life of people in the North Carolina backcountry during

the Colonial period. The tour provides a fascinating environment for students to explore

the history of the region. A more in-depth hands-on experience is available at the request

of the teacher; please refer to the “History Hands-On” option when making your

  reservation.

hours. Self-guided tours of the Homesite are not available. Teachers will be provided pre-

visit materials that include a Gallery Trail for students to use during their visit and a post-

visit assessment. While it is strongly recommended that teachers have a specific focus

or activity for students during their visit, the Gallery Trail provided may be used in place
