School ToursA visit to the Charlotte Museum of History brings history to life through artifacts and stories of Charlotteans past and present.Guided school tours are available Tuesday-Friday, by reservation only, and begin at 10am. Guided Tours:
This interactive and engaging tour of the Homesite is led by experienced, knowledgeable, costumed docents. Each tour includes a visit to the fully furnished Hezekiah Alexander house, the oldest home in Mecklenburg County; the detached kitchen; and springhouse. The focus of the tour is the daily life of people in the North Carolina backcountry during the Colonial period. The tour provides a fascinating environment for students to explore the history of the region. A more in-depth hands-on experience is available at the request of the teacher; please refer to the “History Hands-On” option when making your reservation.

Museum self-guided tours may be arranged at your convenience during regular museum hours. Self-guided tours of the Homesite are not available. Teachers will be provided pre- visit materials that include a Gallery Trail for students to use during their visit and a post- visit assessment. While it is strongly recommended that teachers have a specific focus or activity for students during their visit, the Gallery Trail provided may be used in place of a teacher-designed activity.
