Red, White, & You: Kids’
Patriotic Art
The Charlotte Museum of
History is proud to host Red, White & You: Kids’ Patriotic Art,
a traveling exhibition organized by Flags Across The Nation. The exhibit
opened July 4, 2006, and will remain on display through September 3, 2006.
Flags Across The Nation
promotes patriotism through the arts with children and adults. Special
projects demonstrate honor and respect for the American flag, along with
cultivating the traditional American values of freedom, diversity, community
and pride.
“It is truly inspiring to
view the creativity and expressiveness conveyed in these works by children
from across the country” said Kris Carmichael, the Museum’s Chief Operating
Officer.
Since the inception of
the “Flags of Freedom” art contest, over 2000 pieces of art from children
across the nation have been juried. The art not selected to be exhibited was
sent overseas to troops in Iraq, to veterans in veteran homes and to wounded
servicemen and women in VA medical centers. For more information about the
Flags Across The Nation organization visit www.flagsacrossthenation.org or
call 704-654-8529.
The museum invites you to
become inspired by this patriotic art and to create some of your own.
After viewing the exhibit,
children and adults are invited to write a letter or draw a picture for the
troops in the museum’s Hands-on History room. The exhibit will be featured
in the museum’s evening series, Museum By Moonlight, August 22, from 5-9
p.m. The program will include patriotic activities and refreshments. |
