Looking
for something fun to do this summer? Need to keep yourself or the kids busy?
The Charlotte Museum of History offers fun, enriching activities throughout
the summer.
On
Saturday, July 8 from 2-4 p.m., children will have the opportunity to create
and taste a traditional Colonial summer treat in our hands-on history room.
“We
will whip our own cream and then layer the whipped cream and berries,” said
Candice Moffitt, Director of Education. “This ‘berry fool’ is always a hit
in the hot summer months.
Making
Colonial deserts isn’t the only fun to be had at the Museum. On Tuesday,
July 25 from 5-7 p.m., kids will have the rare opportunity of exploring the
Museum after hours.
There will be a pizza party, hands-on activities, games, crafts and face
painting.
On
Saturday, August 12 from 2-4 p.m., our 18th Century Gallery will come alive
with hands-on activities and demonstrations. Children will enjoy cornhusk
doll making, quill pen writing, Colonial toys and a spinning
demonstration.
During
the summer months, tours of the Hezekiah Alexander Homesite, located on the
Museum grounds, are given daily at 1:15 and 3:15 p.m. These tours are great
for both children and adults.
Built
in 1774, the Alexander house is the oldest surviving structure in
Mecklenburg County. Lively docents dressed in 18th century
costume lead living-history tours that give visitors a sense of Colonial
life in the Carolina backcountry.
The
Charlotte Museum of History is where history has home, and this
summer we invite you to tour our home and enjoy our programs. Pack a picnic
and spend an afternoon in history. |
